iQ2000 – FAQs

  1. Is it safe to use with sensitive electronics?
Yes. The inverter technology in Generac's iQ2000 takes the raw power produced by the generator and passes it through a special electronic microprocessor to provide clean and stable power. It's safe to use with computers and other sensitive electronic devices.

  2. How quiet is it?/What's the DB rating of these units?
Since there is no industry standard for measuring sound output of portable generators, Generac is unable to provide the dBA levels for any of its portable units.

However, third-party testing revealed that the Generac iQ2000 has 22% less sound power than the Honda EU2000i, which ensures that hunters, tailgaters, and campers can savor the sounds of nature without compromising or sacrificing power. The iQ uses a different type of alternator than standard generators. A digital inverter module converts the raw power produced from DC to AC power. Engine speed varies depending on electrical demand – which significantly reduces noise levels.

  3. What type of oil is recommended? How often should it be changed?
Above 40°F, use SAE 30. Below 40°F and down to 10°F, use 10W–30. Below 10°F, use synthetic 5W–30. Oil should be changed after the first 30 hours of operation and every 100 hours of run time thereafter.

  4. Can this be configured to run on an alternative fuel source?
We do not offer any type of fuel conversion kit for our portable generators. If the unit is configured to operate on a different fuel type, it will void the manufacturer's warranty.

  5. Can the iQ be paralleled with another brand's unit?
No. The iQ2000 can only be paralleled with another iQ2000 generator.

The Generac iQ2000 is 46.2 pounds (19.3kg) without fuel and oil.

  7. Can I vent the exhaust out of an enclosed area?
